Resveratrol Supplements - Good For Your Health?

One of the great mysteries of dietetic science is the so called "French Paradox" – the French eat foods that are high in calories, high in fat, and wash it down with gallons of red wine, and have a typical healthy life span that's nearly four years longer than an American who eats similarly.

This isn't coincidental. The real solution to the mystery seems to be resveratrol. Produced by some plants to guard against infection, resveratrol is one of the most powerful antioxidants you can find.

The only issue as far as the French Paradox was concerned was that researchers weren't sure that there was enough resveratrol in the typical French diet for it to be clinically significant.

Almost no one will deny that when resveratrol has been tested in the lab, it produced benefits in nearly every instance. Lab animals who took resveratrol displayed increased energy, a longer lifespan, and had higher amounts of lean muscle.

But wait, it gets better...

Mice that had been genetically engineered to suffer diabetes were fed resveratrol and their blood glucose levels dropped to only slightly above normal.

This wasn't quite a 'cure for diabetes' so to speak, but its effects were pronounced enough that escalated and accelerated human trials were approved.

And now the internet is getting into the mix. You've probably read the reports written with breathless enthusiasm, touting resveratrol as the wonder drug of the new millennium.

Does it warrant this kind of coverage?

Maybe it is. However, for any one particular supplement to live up to the promises being made about resveratrol would be pretty darn hard. I'm not telling you something you don't already know, but a magic fountain of youth doesn't exist.

But maybe, just maybe, resveratrol supplements are the closest thing we have.

And since it only takes a minute or two, I'd think you'd want to check it out. Because they're classified as a "nutritional supplement," resveratrol, like other supplements, aren't subject to things like "drug purity laws."

Buying resveratrol, like buying any supplement online, is a game of buyer beware. There is currently no way to organically synthesize resveratrol; it's all harvested from plants, and that harvesting process takes time and effort. Which means that resveratrol supplements tend to vary in quality, along with their price.

I'll address this next question before you even ask -- it would be nearly impossible, unless you were a legendary alcoholic, to get enough resveratrol just from your regular daily food and drink. Resveratrol is most concentrated in red wine, but even with that you'd have to drink about liters a day.

So to get the benefit, you're going to need a little help in the form of supplements. But how do you choose the right resveratrol supplements in the first place?

You don't want to be getting a resveratrol supplement that has a lot of fillers. Store your resveratrol supplements in proper conditions, because they can break down if kept in intense heat or very bright light.

The very first thing I would suggest you do is head over to this resveratrol supplements review page, where you'll find constantly updated reviews. There are also a few nice videos at that site that show you the exact steps you need to take to claim some great free resveratrol trial samples that a few companies are giving away. So it's definitely better than a haphazard trial and error process, and it just might wind up saving you a decent amount of money.

Just to sum up, whichever resveratrol supplements you choose to take, understand that it's only a part of a health maintenance system. You still need to get adequate amounts of exercise, eat healthy foods, and cut down the stress that's tearing apart your body.

A pill won't undo all of the damage we do to our bodies by itself, but it the lab tests are to be believed, it can seriously cut down on the time needed for these changes to have a positive effect.
